How to Order

Slash energy costs, conserve energy, and be comfortable.

AEP Mounting Types

Before you make an order, you must first understand AEP mounting types.

◼︎ Surface mount
AEP is prepared with weather-stripping on the back of the panel rails and attached using screws and clips to the trim (photo). We typically specify this type of mount.

◼︎ Recess mount
AEP is prepared with weather-stripping on the back of the panel rails and attached with pegs that are inserted in drilled holes and corner angles to secure the AEP against a recessed surface or “stops.” (photo)

◼︎ Compression mount
AEP is prepared with weather-stripping on the edges of the panel rails to establish a friction fit within the window opening. Compression mount does not involve mechanical mounting of any kind.

◼︎ Custom mount
New construction presents opportunities for various alternatives to securely mount AEP and meet your specific design requirements. Consult a design or construction professional to consider various options and ideas.

Study your windows

  • Does your window trim lend itself to surface or recess mounting? What plane will your AEP fit in? Does the trim need to be modified to accept AEP?

  • If your trim needs to be modified, can you modify the trim yourself, or do you need a contractor’s help?

  • Will blinds and window hardware interfere conflict with the AEP? (Are you willing to move blinds and/or hardware to make way for AEP?)

  • If your windows are curved or arched and the trim cannot readily accommodate square AEP panels for air sealing, custom templates will be required. Contact us to arrange a phone consultation.

If you decide AEP is right for you, provide the finished dimensions of your panel order, along with your address. We will send you an estimate based on the information you provide, and an estimated production time. We will fabricate your order once we receive pre-payment in full.

    How to Measure

First, check out our “How to Measure Video above.

    Request an Estimate

Next, prepare a request for an estimate using the guidelines below. This will NOT constitute an order – you will decide whether to proceed or not later.

For every panel in your order, provide the finished width and height dimensions, based on your window/opening measurements and desired mounting type:

    • Surface-mounted panels:
Decide where on the trim you want to mount your panel rails. Provide panel width and height measurements in inches. Indicate if the panel will sit on a sill.

    • Recess-mounted panels:
Carefully measure from side to side and top to bottom of the recess opening in which you want to mount the panels. Provide panel width and height measurements in inches. Remember: too small and the panel will not snug up against the stops; too big and the panel may not fit in the opening. Indicate if the panel will sit on a sill.

    • Compression-mounted panels:
Carefully measure the opening you want the panel to fit into. From the width, subtract 5/8 inch. From the height, subtract ½ inch. Provide panel width and height measurements in inches. Remember: too small and the panel may be looser in the opening than desired; too big and the panel may be too tight to easily install, remove and reinstall.

    • For curved and arched windows:
Provide a rough square foot calculation of the window area, the elevation of the bottom of the windows or array of windows, and the elevation at the top – both in feet.
